Downtown Woodstock is a busy place in July

The key to a great rock concert isn't always having access to keyboards. Kim Mitchell had a great show on Canada Day in Southside Park in Woodstock and next for summer festivals in the City's main park is Cowapolooza, Aug. 14 - 15.

The storm of July 1 created a power outage, and havoc to Kim Mitchell's keyboards, but the concert went on and Southside Park became a Rockland Wonderland with Patio Lanterns and rock music lovers were able to Go For A Soda.

Before the Cowapolooza weekend, Woodstock will also have Summer Streetfest, July 17-18, which is actually three days of excitement with a South Gate Centre Car Show -- the Streetfest Cruise -- on Sunday, July 19. At the car show, there's a giant 50/50 draw and hourly door prizes. The car owners annually attempt to earn bragging rights in many categories including best original cars. If alliteration bothers you like a bug on a windshield, let me say that I enjoy vintage Volkswagen vehicles.  

For the July 19 car show, bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Seniors In Food Crisis group.

Streetfest is an annual combined effort of Woodstock BIA / City of Woodstock / the Woodstock economic development office as a promotion of everything Downtown Woodstock featuring three stages of live music with the focus on the Museum Square lineup. (Live music will also emanate from Crabby Joe's and Charles Dickens Pub locations) It's also the 50th birthday year for the BIA association, and the Downtown Woodstock committee is referring as a Downtown Block Party ! One of the party favours is foam -- a foam party. See: www.downtownwoodstock.ca

Streetfest includes a zip line this year, plus a 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament coordinated by Why Not Us. Streetfest includes a dunk tank (I've been asked to participate), many children activities, food and ice cream, savings from the stores, a rock-climbing wall, chalk art, and the green street where sod is installed for outdoor games.

When you're on Dundas, be sure to stop at the Woodstock Art Gallery (WAG) with its on-going exhibit to recognize the works of Florence Carlyle, along with a show continuing into early 2027 called Great Small Things: 60 Years of Collecting

By the way, the Visual Arts 68 juried exhibition / competition begins July 11, so it can be viewed during Streetfest as well. That show runs until Sept. 19.

Other Woodstock 125 happenings (Woodstock officially became a City in 1901) include a movie in Southside Park (Zootopia 2) and a terrific museum exhibit which just opened at Woodstock Museum National Historic Site two days ago. I will feature an entire post on the museum exhibit in this space. The second floor of the museum features an on-going exhibit to the history of Woodstock, so it would be an integral stop on your Downtown excursion.
